Traveling extensively with family in early years was the foundation for Oliver's educational pursuits in history, anthropology and fine art. In 1996, he graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree specializing in sculpture, in particular the subtractive process of stone carving. His creative interests drew him twice to work and live in Pietrasanta, Italy and then to Iqualuit, Nunavut, where he carved alongside many well know Inuit Artists. He relocated to Vancouver, BC in 2005, where he continues to explore the legacy of past civilizations through his contemporary stone sculptures. Recently, he has been awarded several collaborative public art commissions with co-sculptor Marie Bortolotto. Oliver Harwood owns and manages Studiostone, a professional stone carving studio in Vancouver offering workshops and a contemporary sculpture gallery.
